In English Language Learner Education, there are numerous acronyms that are utilized to discuss the nuances of language education. From 1997-1998 to 2007-2008, there was a huge increase in English Language Learner students in United States schools. The Minnesota Department of Education gave MACSA a presentation on the benefits of bilingualism. Bilingual students have stronger empathy, sensitivity, and executive control. The Every Student Succeeds Act is necessary for school districts to follow due to the legislative rules in place in Minnesota. The Minnesota Leaps Act is another legislative piece that discusses bilingualism and cultural competence in schools. In order for schools to be successful in providing viable education to English Language Learners, there must be a solid understanding of the legislation behind bilingual education. Legislation and schools go hand-in-hand, thus increasing the necessity for educators to be properly involved with school law.
